republican, and democratic lieutenant governor governor john fetterman. georgia s candidates met in a live debate last night. raphael warnock faced off against republican herschel walker after weeks of bombshell allegations leveled at the former football star. cnn s eva mckend has more. reporter: democratic senator yell war knock and republican challenger herschel walker are in a contentious georgia senate race with u.s. senate controlling. it is time to get under way. reporter: they debated friday night. walker, running on a family values platform currently involved in a scandal over allegedly pressuring the mother of one of his children to get an abortion. a week before this debate a former girlfriend said you paid for an abortion and encouraged her to have another. in an abc news interview this week, you said that the accusations are, quote, all lies. for the voters watching tonight, can you explain the circumstances surrounding these claims. you have 60 seconds.
we are now just five days to midterms with control of congress on the line. and here are the big named closers on the trail today, president biden flying to new mexico, vice president harris in new york and former president trump in iowa where he s kicking off four rallies in five days. we head to georgia first because power in the senate could come down to this race and the peach state yet again. cnn s eva mckend is in atlanta. you ve been tracking this key battleground tate for months. what do we need to know? reporter: well, ana, we ve gotten to the stage of the game where senator warnock, herschel walker are making their closing arguments, senator warnock talks a lot on the trail about his bipartisan work in congress. arguing that he is willing to work with republicans if ultimately it is in service to georgians talking about health care and his efforts to lower the cost of insulin. meanwhile, herschel walker working overtime despite his many scandals to tie warnock to
newsroom. i m jim acosta in washington, and we begin this hour with a developing situation in russia near the ukrainian border. the russian defense ministry says 11 people are dead and another 15 are injured after two men or two gunmen, i should say, opened fire on russian military recruits during a training session. russia says the two men were from former soviet states that russian state news agency is reporting the incident occurred during a shooting training session with volunteers preparing for a special operation when the unit was attacked with small arms fire. details are still coming in to cnn at this hour. we ll update you as we get more of that information as it s coming in, but we ll bring that to you just as soon as that story develops. in the meantime, the shooting happened as the violence inside ukraine is once against escalating violently. in just the past week, russia launched hundreds of missile strikes, including yesterday and today in zaporizhzhia. they
