In mid-March, Ottawa lost an accomplished and prodigiously published University of Ottawa software engineer, a globe-trotting tenor saxophonist who enlivened jam sessions since the 1970s, an esoteric accordionist and a veteran CKCU-FM radio-show host with the most highly developed tastes in world music and avant-garde jazz.
In other words, Bernard Stepien has passed away. He was 74, and was fighting prostate cancer. Stepien is survived by his wife Claudine, son Thomas and granddaughter Isabelle, and mourned by stalwarts of Ottawa’s jazz community, in which h
