From Staff Reports
LAS CRUCES - Police say the investigation into the Feb. 25 crash that claimed the life of Las Cruces Public Schools Superintendent Karen Trujillo is complete and police authorities won t be filing charges against the driver.
About 5:35 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, Las Cruces police were dispatched to the report of a crash on the 1200 block of Edgewood Avenue. Traffic investigators learned a Nissan Quest minivan was traveling west on Edgewood when it struck Trujillo who was walking her two dogs.
The 18-year-old driver, the sole occupant of the minivan, remained on scene and has been cooperative with police. Trujillo, 50, was transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.
LAS CRUCES – Ralph Ramos hopes to continue Superintendent Karen Trujillo s legacy of resilience as interim superintendent of Las Cruces Public Schools.
Ramos, principal at Camino Real Middle School, was chosen to temporarily lead the district through the end of the spring semester. He will serve as acting superintendent through June 30, or until the board finds a permanent superintendent.
Ramos said the phone call and interview with the school board Monday that led to him accepting the temporary position was spontaneous. I m a state employee, I work for Las Cruces Public Schools, Ramos said. If this is where you need me, I m ready to serve our community. And that s pretty much been my trend of my career.
