In tacloban, some bodies are covered, placed on the sides of the streets, but many others remain where they died. a tourist from new zealand describes what he saw in that devastated city. we saw five dead bodies just wrapped up in plastic and one other child probably 8 or 9 just being carried in a plastic bag who had drowned. most of them are drownings. two responders remove a body from a massive field of debris. relief officials are worried the decaying bodies will create health risks for survivors. many of whom are drinking water from wells, not knowing if it s contaminated. we don t have enough water, even though we are not sure that it is clean and safe, we still drink from it because we need to survive. reporter: in tacloban, a city of more than 200,000, survivors walk the streets shell-shocked, scavenging for anything to sustain them. this video shows the incredible power of the storm surge. massive tankers picked up and carried ashore in tacloban. ....

That s a sewer pipe. there s all kinds of infrastructure damage here as well. this is very perilous. it s unclear whether this will continue to slide, perhaps fall into this river. the owners are going to try and cut the building off here to try and salvage something out of it. the integrity of that thing just looks really, really shaky. all over the state, there are scenes like this where there s been property destroyed, roads and bridges destroyed. the roads and bridges seem to be the real big problem now because there are so many places where you can t get to or it s very difficult to get to by road. vermont is a state full of rivers, roads, rails. it s a small population. just 600,000 people or so. it s very spread out. it s very mountainous. relief officials are having some difficulty getting help to people who need it. the director of fema is coming to town today to take a look at vermont and get a better sense of what s happening. there are also about 30 trucks of supplies comin ....

Points in the town for 60,000 people. basically it was two small water trucks. one ran out of water. a state vehicle came by from the larger state area, prefecture. they had water supplies and helped out the local city hall there. but it s you know, people are overwhelmed, no doubt about it. you have a lot of people on the ground, a lot of japanese officials working around the clock. the system is overwhelmed at this point. and people make donations, it goes to a central office. then it s distributed outward. but i ve talked to some relief officials in towns who have seen, you know, people foraging for food in the debris. trying to find pick through debris to try to get something to eat because there s not enough supplies. and i mean, at this point you don t hear a lot of criticism of the japanese government by people here. that could change depending on the next 24, 48 hours. there s certainly a lot of concern, but still there s ....
