New mobile COVID-19 testing clinic now available Posted on February 10, 2021 by oshawaexpress in COVID-19, HEALTH, NEWS Durham Region Transit (DRT) is making it a little easier to get a COVID-19 test. DRT, in partnership with Region of Durham Paramedic Services (RDPS), have launched an innovative mobile testing clinic with a focus on health and safety in the community. DRT General Manager Bill Holmes says he is “incredibly proud” to partner with RDPS. “We are thankful to our paramedics for their continuous efforts throughout these unprecedented times, especially being out there in the community, day in and day out, providing assistance to those who need it most,” he says. ....
Brock Township mayor loses battle with cancer Posted on January 27, 2021 by oshawaexpress in NEWS, REGION (Photo courtesy Township of Brock) The Brock Township community and the Region of Durham are in mourning after the passing of Brock Mayor Debbie Bath-Hadden following a long battle with cancer. Bath-Hadden passed away early in the morning on Jan. 24 at home with her husband and family by her side. In a recent statement, Brock Deputy Mayor Ted Smith said Bath-Hadden was a “decisive leader who always put the needs of our community and residents first.” “She spent years in public service as a strong champion of Township and Regional issues and served the community with devotion,” he says. ....
Public health and safety top priority for regional chair Posted on January 22, 2021 by oshawaexpress in COVID-19, NEWS, REGION Durham Regional Chair John Henry As Durham Region and the rest of the province continues to grapple with COVID-19, Regional Chair John Henry says the public’s health and safety is his “number one priority.” Henry says there have been recent concerns and questions surrounding some regional councillors’ decisions to travel during COVID-19, noting he felt it was important to address the issue both directly with regional council as well as with all Durham residents. “I have reminded all regional councillors of the importance of leading by example; and that while there are no legal barriers to travel or to following other guidelines and restrictions during this pandemic, as elected officials we are held to a higher accountability – accountability from our constituents, our peers and ourselves,” states Henry. ....
