(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Tax Increment financing (TIF) funds – totaling over $50 million – and broke ground at the new Northeast Heights, located at the Minnesota Avenue, NE and Benning Road, NE corridor in Ward 7. Northeast Heights is designed as a destination location to include mixed-use development consisting of new and reimagined retail, dining, and residential spaces. A primary anchor of the development is the relocation of the Department of General Services (DGS) headquarters, to be located at 3924 Minnesota Avenue, NE. Mayor Bowser was joined by Ward 7 Councilmember Vincent C. Gray, representatives from Cedar Realty Trust, the Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group, Asland Capital Partners, Administration officials and members of the community. ....

DC Council sets the stage for high-density residential construction on publicly owned land along U Street Corridor

As part of its sweeping District-wide planning overhaul process, DC Council took a vote Tuesday that could set the stage for more housing along the U Street Corridor.
The Council voted unanimously Tuesday to pass the first of two votes for a long-awaited update to the Comprehensive Plan, the document that guides growth and land use across the District.
During that session, Ward 1 councilmember Brianne Nadeau introduced an amendment to the Future Land Use Map (FLUM), which doesn’t change zoning but does guide future zoning and land use decisions. Her amendment, which passed 12-1, changes the land use designations for some DC-owned properties along U Street to allow for dense housing development. ....

DC reveals 2 proposals for Reeves Center redevelopment

The District has released presentations from two separate teams of developers for the redevelopment of the the Frank D. Reeves Municipal Building, known as the Reeves Center, in the heart of the U Street Corridor.
The redevelopment, at 2000 14th St. NW at U Street, will be the home of the NAACP when it relocates its headquarters from Baltimore to D.C.
The first proposal, from Legacy Community Partners, includes 14 development teams and investors led by Dantes Partners and Menkiti Group, and would include 250 apartments, 46 condos, 100,000 square feet of office space and a 150-room hotel. Retailers would include D.C. Central Kitchen, a food hall and a community partnership with St. Augustine Catholic Church. ....
