A man was flown to Nelson Hospital by rescue helicopter on Thursday after the vehicle he was in plunged down a bank off the Wangapeka bridge along the Karamea Highway in Buller District. Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter pilot Barry McAuliffe said the chopper crew flew the man to Nelson Hospital. St John communications adviser Gerard Campbell said there were three patients from the crash – one with serious injuries, one with moderate injuries and the other with minor injuries. All three were taken by St John to the Karamea Medical Centre initially.
