Hanson Jr. speaks with Rebekah Coleman, the newly-elected judge in Michigan’s 32A District in Harper Woods. Coleman is the first female magistrate to hold the position and the first African-American judge to be elected in Harper Woods 69-year history. By Victor Omondi As reported by Black Enterprise, Rebekah Coleman is Harper Woods’ first Black judge in history. Coleman graduated from Michigan State in 2007. She later attained her Juris Doctorate at Wayne State Law School in 2010, before getting a master’s from the University of Detroit Mercy four years later. In the November general election, Coleman made history by impressively beating officeholder Daniel Palmer. Coleman led by a 53% majority, placing a landmark in Harper Woods’ 69-years-long history. She became the first African-American judge of the city. To make it better, she had the privilege to share her joy with her father, a judge, beside her, swearing her into office. ....
