US democracy birthed in violence
The violence that accompanied attacks on federal buildings before the election and the recent assault on the Capitol is deplorable, but is unfortunately also a possible frightful omen of the future.
It is easy to ignore history and forget that our present form of government, as well as that of other countries, was birthed in violence. Had the governments at the time of the American and French revolutions prevailed, George Washington would have been labeled a traitor, rather than a hero, and the rabble that stormed the Bastille would have been executed, rather than glorified. ....
