CONCORD â A dozen âHandmaidsâ protested at the New Hampshire State House on Wednesday to join with other people opposed to the addition of anti-abortion language in the proposed biennial budget.
A coalition of opponents to the language, which would make late-stage abortion illegal even in the case of rape, is now in the House- and Senate-approved budget, and the group called on Gov. Chris Sununu to veto the budget and protect a womanâs right to choose.
While Sununu has maintained he is pro-choice, he said he supports the late-stage ban and has indicated he will support the legislation.
Louise Spencer of the Concord-based Kent Street Coalition denounced Sununuâs position, saying that to sign the bill would make him the first governor in the history of the state to pass an abortion ban.
My Turn: After the pandemic, virtual meeting format should remain an option

A significant and unexpected benefit of the COVID-19 pandemic has been the allowance of virtual public meetings under the governor’s Executive Order #12.
This measure has enabled the temporary modification of RSA 91-A, the right-to-know law, to allow for public meetings without a physical location, so long as the public can access the meeting virtually and the meeting is properly noticed. As a result, town of Durham boards, committees, commissions, and our town council have been meeting largely via Zoom since mid-March 2020. This has been the case for numerous municipal committees, select boards, city councils, and school boards across state as well.
