Care home residents are continuing to die with Covid-19 in South Gloucestershire as dozens of outbreaks occur despite stringent testing regimes and the vaccine roll out, writes Amanda Cameron. Nine care home residents died with the virus in a single week this month, and 29 care homes and other care settings have had new or ongoing outbreaks in the last two weeks. The sobering figures were presented to local councillors on Wednesday (January 27) by the group that oversees support for care providers to prevent and manage coronavirus. Rebecca Harrold, co-chair of the Care Provider Oversight Group, told members of South Gloucestershire Council’s health scrutiny committee that care homes inevitably see Covid-19 outbreaks and deaths two to three weeks after spikes of infection in the community.
