Shakespeare and social justice and Santa Cruz! The old, dead white guy has a lot to teach us today

William Shakespeare has been dead for more than 400 years, but for Rebecca Haley Clark, education programs manager at Santa Cruz Shakespeare, “ol’ Billy Shakes” still has lessons to teach us today and to share with kids. A Santa Cruz native, Clark has spent years studying Shakespeare across the globe and now is back home and has created a program for Santa Cruz youth called “Shakespeare and Social Justice.” Clark is looking for schools interested in hosting the programs, which aim to knock the Bard of Avon off his pedestal and make him relevant to this generation and the issues they confront today, including racism.

COLLAB24: Bringing Theatre Artists Together From Across the World!

The second annual Collab24 is a 24-hour devised theatre festival that is bringing together artists of all disciplines with the goal of strengthening our artistic communities through a shared process of creating and presenting devised theatre. Four groups of makers will devise a production over a collective 24-hours throughout the course of a week for you to enjoy!

An Ode to Isolation: Those Women Productions HINDSIGHT 2020

Entering 2020, New Year decorations capitalized on “20/20 vision,” “the roaring 20s” and other such optimistic phrases. However, the year 2020 took a drastic turn with the COVID-19 pandemic, throwing the world into a collectively and historically horrible year and leaving us with no perky puns, except that hindsight is 20/20.  Directed and created by Rebecca Haley Clark, in collaboration with Those Women Productions and an exceptionally talented team of artists, “HINDSIGHT 2020” encapsulates the universal experiences of longing, disconnection and endurance that 2020 produced in us all, from baking bread to working at home to illness the good, the bad and the ugly.  Through a collage of multimedia art forms and images, “HINDSIGHT 2020” contemplates and laments the unique challenges posed by last year, using the production as a fascinating and relatable form of catharsis.
