But the push to bring kids back to classrooms is getting push back from many teachers. The debate over education is so important it is a key focus of our efforts to build a better bay area. Kate larson heard from two of the Largest School districts in the bay area, oakland and San Francisco about what they are planning this fall. Reporter in a presentation San Francisco Unified School District laid out a plan for the fall. While staff has not yet agreed the district is recommending almost all students distance learn when School Starts on august 17th. Small groups of priority students may be able to do inperson school. And once data suggests its safe a gradual return to a hybrid distance and inperson plan would begin. With san quinton, as the states covid19 hot spot right now. The governor is ordering the release of as many as 8,000 prisoners system wide. More than 1500 inmates and employees have tested positive for the virus at san quinton, seven have died. The prison posted these pictures showing how inmates are being socially distanced in a repurposed furniture facility. We are live with the story. Reporter the covid19 outbreak here at san quinton has claimed the lives of seven inmates you can see the staff let willing people in and wearing face masks. Lets remember that the outbreak did not hit san quinton until late may. The spread of the virus has resulted in over 200 staff testing positive to covid19 and thousands of inmates. But the department of corrections estimates that 8,000 inmates currently could be eligible for release by the end of august because of new measures.
