One vote short: EL council split on property transfer to CIC | News, Sports, Jobs

sujhelyi@reviewonline.com EAST LIVERPOOL The absence of one council member made all the difference Monday at a special meeting when transferring three properties to the city’s Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) came up for a vote. Throughout the whole meeting, which took around eight minutes, action was swift and unanimous except when council members voted on transferring 427 Vine St., 859 Ohio Ave. and 847 Baxter St. to the CIC for disposal. During the preceding meeting of council’s finance committee, Mayor Greg Bricker said there had been interest by a real estate firm in flipping the Vine Street property, while the properties on Ohio Avenue is already a vacant lot and the one on Baxter is expected to be so in the future.

(Photo by Stephanie Ujhelyi) EAST LIVERPOOL In the past year since signing on the dotted line to see the former Riverview Florist property developed, city officials have heard little but crickets. The East Liverpool Community Improvement Corporation met Thursday to consider a variety of action, including termination of the operating agreement that created the Riverview Business Park LLC, which had been signed in late February 2020 before the pandemic hit.

EL council to consider patrolman pay increase | News, Sports, Jobs

sujhelyi@reviewonline.com EAST LIVERPOOL City officials hope emergency changes to the police labor contract may help attract the right candidates. During Tuesday’s meeting of East Liverpool council’s Finance Committee, members unanimously agreed to recommend amending a 2017 agreement setting the starting pay scale and tiers for patrol officers. The contract was set to expire March 31, 2020, but the pandemic extended negotiations. City Safety-Service Director David Dawson said that labor negotiations for the contract were postponed until May. The city’s Civil Service Commission wants to offer another entry-level patrolman’s test soon. The administration wants the change in place before the testing.
