professor kotten siler cotton seiler teaches a class about the emerging definitions of whiteness and blackness in colonial america and how they impacted the emergence of country music. you described how laws elevated poor whites above slaves and free blacks, which helped white frontiersman form a separate group identity. some of the traditions of this group and their ballots became the basis of country music. his classes about an hour and 10 minutes. prof. seiler: good morning, everyone. today we are going to talk about country music, hillbilly music. i m going to ship shift back and forth between the terms. one of the things we see from peterson is that country music is music of my damaging music of modernity. in response to it, grapples with it. i want to frame our discussion around couple of quotations. the first is from an anthropologist. country music is widely disparaged and racialized terms and assertions of its badness are quickly flamed in specifically r ....

it was designed to display the bill of rights, and it opened in 1936. only the bill of rights occupied the case. we had to wait until 1952 to bring all three founding documents together. the story of how the declaration and constitution came to the archives is the one we never tire of hearing. now i would like to introduce jessie krantz, historian of the national archives. she became the first historian in 2013. she was previously with [indiscernible] with the center for legislative archives and has been with the agency since 1999. please welcome jessie krantz.
