Professor Emeritus Sir Mason Durie, Rangitāne, Ngāti Kauwhata, Ngāti Raukawa Te Au ki te Tonga, ONZ, KNZM received one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s highest honours at Government House on Monday – the Insignia of Member of the Order of New Zealand for services to New Zealand.
According to the honour’s citation, Sir Mason Durie has been at the forefront of a transformational approach to Māori health and has played major roles in building the Māori health workforce for more than 40 years. ....

Bursaries Grow Our Māori Mental Health Workforce

Over 120 Māori students who have received bursaries for
their mental health studies have been welcomed at two-day
hui at Massey University in Auckland today.
“We are
committed to improving mental health and addiction outcomes
in Aotearoa New Zealand. We want to make sure that Māori
can be supported by Māori, so we need to make sure we build
the Māori workforce and encourage working in mental
health,” said Toni Gutschlag, Acting Deputy
Director-General, Mental Health and
Addiction.

Professor Emeritus Sir Mason Durie (Rangitāne, Ngāti Kauwhata, Ngāti Raukawa Te Au ki te Tonga) (KNZM) – is among several Massey luminaries to be recognised in the 2021 New Year Honours list. Sir Mason has been made a member of the Order of New Zealand (ONZ) in recognition of his service to New Zealand.
