COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka reached another grim milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic with the death toll exceeding 300 after the Director-General of Health Services confirmed that eight COVID-19 deaths were reported in the country on Friday (Jan. 29).
As of Saturday (Jan. 30), Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll stands at 305.
The details of the deceased as released by the Department of Government Information are as follows:
01. A 65-year-old male from Kollonnawa. He was diagnosed as infected with COVID and transferred from Colombo General Hospital to Iranawila Treatment Centre, where he passed away on 27th January 2021. The cause of death is mentioned Covid pneumonia. ....

Seven more persons who were infected with COVID-19 have succumbed to the virus, the Director-General of Health Services confirmed.
According to the Department of Government Information, total lives claimed by the virus outbreak in Sri Lanka now stand at 297.
One of the victims was identified as an 86-year-old from Colombo 06. He has passed away on January 26 on admission to Iththepana District Hospital. The cause of death was cited as diabetes and high blood pressure exacerbated by COVID-19 infection.
Another man, aged 73, meanwhile fell victim to the virus today (January 28) at his home in Nittambuwa area. COVID-19 infection, heart attack, diabetes and high blood pressure have been recorded as the cause of death. ....

Director-General of Health Services has confirmed three more COVID-19 related fatalities in the country.
The new development has brought the death toll from the virus to 232, according to the Department of Government Information.
One of the victims was identified as a 62-year-old inmate who was incarcerated at the Negombo Prison. He was admitted to the Negombo Base Hospital and had passed away on Friday (January 08) after being transferred to the Mulleriyawa Base Hospital. The cause of death was cited as COVID-19 pneumonia.
In the meantime, an 80-year-old woman was residing in Colombo 14 fell victim to the virus today (January 10). She was under medical care at the Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama and was later transferred to the Pimbura Base Hospital. She has died of COVID-19 pneumonia and cancer. ....
