CID record over 50 statements regarding Dutch monk's death

In connection with the suspicious death of the Dutch monk who resided at the Polgasduwa Temple in Rathgama, the Criminal Investigation Department has recorded over 50 statements.
The body of the deceased monk, Ven. Olande Jinarathana Thera was found floating on the Rathgama Lagoon on 04 December, with his legs tied to concrete blocks. The monk s death is suspected to be a murder.
The monk was living in Sri Lanka for the past eight years and had left his home country around 25 years ago

According to Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana, water samples were collected to conduct a diatom test, while a specialist psychiatrist and two specialist JMOs are to inspect the scene and the vicinity. ....

Dutch Monk's samples sent to lab to determine cause of death

Colombo (News 1st); Samples of the late Netherlanthaye Jinawansa Thero, the Dutch Monk who was found dead in the Rathgama Lagoon will be sent to a laboratory for tests in order to ascertain the cause of death.
The decision to do so was made by the Specialist Judicial Medical Officer who conducted the postmortem examination on the deceased Dutch Monk, who was residing at the Katudampe Polgasduwa Aranya Senasanaya in Rathgama.
On Thursday (11), Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa instructed the Inspector General Police to assign the Criminal Investigations Department to conduct an investigation with respect to the death of the Dutch monk. ....

Sri Lanka : Police launch extensive investigation in to foreign monk's suspicious death

Dec 11, Colombo: Four police teams including a special team from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) have commenced an extensive investigation into the sudden death of a Dutch national Netherlanthaye Jinawansa Thero who had fallen into the Rathgama lagoon.
The monk’s body with his feet tied with a weight was discovered on Tuesday (08) night, in the Rathgama Lagoon, police said.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the IGP and the Director of the CID to immediately begin a comprehensive investigation into his death.
The post mortem was conducted by Dr. Janaki Varshavitharana, a specialist forensic pathologist at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital yesterday (10), on the suspicion of murder. An open verdict was given and the body parts were referred to the Government Analyst for further examination. ....

The Galle Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela today (09) conducted an inquiry into the death of a Dutch monk who was found floating in the Rathgama Lagoon, Dodanduwa
The Dutch monk had previously resided at the Polgasduwa Forest Convent.
The Hiru local correspondent stated that the body of the 56-year-old monk was found in the lagoon yesterday (08) afternoon with a stone tied to his feet.
Following the magisterial inquiry, Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela ordered that the body be taken to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for an autopsy.
