Lightning strikes kill 177 in four months in Bangladesh

Lightning strikes killed 177 people, including 13 children, across Bangladesh from March to June.
A Save the Society and Thunderstorm Awareness Forum report came up with the statistics on Friday in a press conference in Dhaka.
Among the deceased, 18 died in Sirajganj, 14 Jamalpur, 13 Netrakona, 16 Chapainawabganj and 10 in Chattogram, said that report.
Among them, 149 were male and 28 female victims. Another 47 people were injured in the strikes.
SSTF demanded the government aware people over short message services 15 minutes before the beginning of thunderstorms and taking steps to reduce deaths in lighting strikes. ....

Lightning killed 177 in last four months

At least 177 people were killed by lightning strikes, mostly farmers at different parts of the county while 47 others were wounded in the last four months since March. This was disclosed by Save the Society and Thunderstorm Awareness Forum (SSTF) after a survey carried out from March to June based on information of both print, electronics and online portals. ....
