The carcass of a sloth bear cub was found in the Sigur forest range in the Nilgiris. The cub, around one year old, showed deep bite marks indicating a possible attack by another wild animal. Samples were collected for lab tests after a postmortem.
The bawdis are in a miserable condition due to several reasons, including private ownership, poor maintenance, wear and tear over time, vandalism, closing of catchment areas and growth of plants. Few bawdis are even used for garbage disposal.
