JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Rasheem Dubose will spend the rest of his life in prison, as part of a resentencing Tuesday stemming from his conviction of first-degree murder in the 2006 shooting death of DreShawna Davis. The home she was staying in, her grandmother s house, was shot 29 times and in the process, she died from her selfless injuries, DreShawna s mother Chinnetta Davis told the court.
A Jacksonville judge has resentenced the main shooter in the 2006 shooting death of 8-year-old DreShawna Davis to life in prison after the Florida Supreme Court overturned his 2010 death sentence.
Rasheem Dubose s sentence, handed down Tuesday by Circuit Court Judge Tatiana Salvador, means he stays in prison without the possibility of parole.
His initial sentence was one of several cases overturned by the Florida Supreme Court in Hurst v. State that required a unanimous finding by a jury for death. The vote by the initial jury was 8-4.
“Today’s outcome respects the family’s wishes for finality in this tragic case and continues to hold Rasheem Dubose accountable for the murder of DreShawna Davis, State Attorney s Office spokesman David Chapman said.
