May 8, 2021 On this date in Texas Rangers history, Josh Hamilton became the first player wearing a Rangers uniform to hit four home runs in a single game. That moment came on May 8, 2012, at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland, against the Baltimore Orioles. All four of Hamilton’s home runs were of the two-run variety. He started the run with a pair of 2-run shots off starter Jake Arietta in the first and third innings. After that, Hamilton hit another off of reliever Zach Phillips in the seventh inning. Then, in the eighth inning, Hamilton set the Rangers record for most home runs in a game with a two-run shot off Darren O’Day. ....
May 8, 2021 Former Texas Rangers manager Bobby Valentine has announced that he will run for mayor of his hometown of Stamford, Connecticut, later this year. It s official! I m seeking your support to be the next Mayor of Stamford, CT,” Valentine posted to Twitter on Friday. Valentine is running as an independent in a race that already features two Democratic candidates: incumbent David Martin and Connecticut state representative Caroline Simmons. This would not be the first time Valentine has worked for the city, if elected. Valentine served as Stamford’s health and public safety director in 2011, before taking the managerial job with the Boston Red Sox. ....
Apr 16, 2021 ARLINGTON, Texas After taking three of four games from the defending American League champion Tampa Bay Rays, the Texas Rangers came home with a thud. Texas dropped the first of a three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 5-2, dropping them to 6-8 on the season. At first, it looked like the Rangers were about to see a repeat of last Friday when Joe Musgrove threw a no-hitter against them. The team got home late from their four-game series in Tampa Bay last night, but that isn t an excuse for Chris Woodward s team. I m not going to make excuses for our guys. We ve gotta be better, Woodward said. That s professional baseball. You re going to have to deal with stuff like that. I felt like that guy came at us and attacked us. We just didn t attack back. A lot of called third strikes. A lot of chase at the top of the zone. We didn t really have tough at-bats tonight. ....
ARLINGTON, Texas The Texas Rangers are getting back two valuable hitters in their lineup. Manager Chris Woodward has penciled in both Brock Holt and Willie Calhoun in his lineup for Saturday night against the Baltimore Orioles. Both players were expected to come of the Injured List on Saturday. Holt will lead off and play third base while Calhoun will bat seventh as the designated hitter. Calhoun will be making his first appearance of the 2021 season with a groin injury near the beginning of spring training keeping him out of game action thus far. To make room for Holt and Calhoun, the Rangers made two corresponding roster moves: Infielder Anderson Tejeda and left-handed pitcher Wes Benjamin were optioned to the alternate training site in Round Rock. ....
