MOUNDSVILLE –Â Two familiar faces will be returning to the city council table in 2021, and fond wishes were shared between council members new and old at their recent final meeting of 2020.
At the November election, Randy Chamberlain and Denny Wallace, both council members in decades past, were called upon to return by voters, defeating incumbents Phil Remke and Brianna Hickman. Chamberlain spoke briefly during public comment at the council’s last meeting, thanking both Remke and Hickman for their service to the city and its citizens.
“They have done an outstanding job, they’ve been very dedicated, committed to serving the people on their time of council, and I hope I can do as much for the people as those two have done,” Chamberlain said. Chamberlain, a former three-term councilman in the 1970s and 1980s, said he now hopes to return “older and wiser.”
“At least 1.5 million self-employed have fallen through the gaps in government support - particularly directors of limited companies and the newly self-employed.
“We urge government to extend SEISS and also finally fix the gaps in it to get support to these still desperately struggling groups.
“As the extension of the furlough scheme shows, we are far from the end of this and the self-employed need just as much protection and support through the coming months as the rest of the workforce.”
SEISS will now go forward with two further grants to cover November to April for the self-employed.

The Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed (IPSE) has said labour market statistics released 15 December show a “year of relentless decline” for the self-employed sector. It has also said that the continuing decline shows the urgent need for the government to consider the recent Directors Income Support Scheme proposal.
IPSE commented after ONS data revealed the total number of self-employed has decreased by 183,000 since last quarter to 4.5m. This reflects a total fall of 460,000 self-employed individuals across all UK industrial sectors since the same time last year.
