back to south carolina. the church that was attacked is known as mother emmanuel and houses the oldest black congregation south of victim. the victims came from all walks of life. a pastor, a state senator and a track coach. we have team coverage tonight. ktvu s john sasaki is speaking with local leaders but we start with mike mibach and the latest from south carolina. reporter: let s talk about the arrest, a citizen spotted the suspect s car, tipped off police and just like that the man hunt ended. the 9 victims, 6 women, 3 men, the mayor called the shooting pure, pure concentrated evil. reporter: handcuffed and wearing a bullet proof vest dylann roof was escorted into a patrol car. the 21-year-old from south carolina was arrested during a traffic stop in shelby, north carolina, 220 miles north of the deadly shooting. this is an unspeakable act by somebody filled with hate and with a deranged mind. reporter: charleston police chief said the gunman spent an hour ....
charleston, south carolina. he was cooperative with the officer who stopped him. we don t have any reason to believe there was anybody else involved. reporter: police say surveillance images show roof entered the emanuel ame church last night. he sat in on a prayer meeting for an hour. a law enforcement source says he then stood up, talked about shooting black people and fired. among the dead south carolina state senator and the church s pastor clementa pinckney. today, governor nikki haley joined the congregation for a prayer vigil. so we have some grieving to do. and we have some pain we have to go through. reporter: the emanuel church is one of the oldest black churches in the country with deep roots in the civil rights movement. president obama says he knew pastor pinckney and expressed anger that he died in a type of mass violence not seen in other advanced countries. once again, innocent people were killed in part because someone who wanted to inflict ha ....

a fun time to hang out with him. most people are wearing green. many leyland high school students donned the color of black as they arrived at school in memory of nguyen. the school tells us grief counselors have been on site for anyone who needs to talk about the tragedy. the principal visited nuguyennguyen s classes. according to one of the school s coaches, track practice had just started when a little before 3 cloorx tristan collapsed while jogging on the track. another coach ran over quickly started cpr on hip. paramedics eventually took over. transported him to the hospital where he was declared dead. the first coach tells us nguyen had a history of asthma but it s not clear what role if any that played in the death of the student who was well liked throughout the school. over social media, everybody was being so respectful, kind and paying respect to the family and it s such a great way to see the school come together and bond over such a terrible tragedy. ....
