19-year-old accused of DeSoto fatal shooting in custody in Arizona article
DESOTO, Texas - A 19-year-old is waiting to be extradited back to DeSoto after police determined he was responsible for the shooting that killed one and injured another last week.
The shooting happened on May 15, as 34-year-old Randall Thornhill and 29-year-old Heather French were sitting in a 2003 Mazda 3 in the 300 block of South Elerson Road.
Investigators found that Evan McMaryion, of DeSoto, tried to carjack them, and shot Thornhill and French.
Thornhill died from his injuries.
DeSoto police said they received nearby surveillance video, and were able to track McMaryion to Arizona, where he had already been taken into custody for another crime.

DESOTO, Texas DeSoto police said a suspect who is accused of killing a man and injuring a woman during a carjacking earlier this month has been arrested in Arizona.
According to DeSoto police, 19-year-old Evan McMaryion shot and killed 34-year-old Randall Thornhill and injured 29-year-old Heather French on May 15 in the 300 block of South Elerson Road.
Detectives said during their investigation, they were able to obtain surveillance footage from the public which helped them track down McMaryion.
DeSoto detectives then traveled to Arizona, where McMaryion was already in custody on a different charge, authorities said. McMaryion will be extradited back to Texas and faces a capital murder charge in the death of Thornhill, according to DeSoto police.
DeSoto police tracked the suspected shooter, Evan McMaryion, to Arizona, where he was already in custody after he was found to be driving a vehicle stolen out of DeSoto.
McMaryion, a DeSoto resident, is being held in the Pinal County jail on charges of capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He faces extradition back to Texas.
Police believe carjacking was the motive in the shooting.
The shooting is the third homicide in the city in the last four weeks.
DeSoto Mayor Rachel Proctor said Saturday that the shootings were isolated and disturbing, but do not represent the overall crime in the city.
A 19-year-old suspect has been found in Arizona and charged for the murder of a man who was waiting to enter the gate of a ranch in DeSoto last weekend, police said.
