The rain and subsequent flash floods wreaked havoc on the hill town of Manali in Himachal Pradesh for the last few days as residents and stranded tourists struggled with power failure, disruption of water supply and no internet.

The chief minister on Tuesday said all stranded tourists would be evacuated by Wednesday and maintained that six helicopters had been deployed to carry out the task. He also claimed that the hill state suffered an estimated loss of Rs 4,000 crore. A total of 873 roads are still blocked for vehicular traffic and 1,956 transformers and 1,369 water supply schemes are disrupted in the state as per the state emergency response centre. As many as 80 people have died in rain-related incidents and road accidents since the onset of monsoon on June 24.
Speaking on the relief and rescue operations being conducted in the state amidst heavy rainfall, acting DGP of Himachal Pradesh Satwant Atwal Trivedi said that evacuation procedure is underway with 1000 vehicles already having left from Kullu - Manali and are enroute to Chandigarh. The Nurpur police on Wednesday informed that water will be released from Pandoh Dam (Mandi) from 6 pm today to 3 pm tomorrow due to incessant rains in the district.
