Rawalpindi : The local administration, Rawalpindi has directed all stall holders to remove their stalls from Ramazan Sasta Bazaars here on Sunday.
A notification to this effect was issued by Punjab government in which Chief Minister Usman Buzdar announced to end Ramazan Sasta Bazaars in the province including Rawalpindi from today (Monday) some four days ahead of Eidul Fitr.
The stall holders and customers were strongly protesting this decision regarding the end of Ramazan Sasta Bazaars four days before Eidul Fitr.
Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan some two days back in a press conference in Rawalpindi told media persons that the government is going to convert Ramazan Sasta Bazaars into ‘Eid Bazaars’. ....

Rawalpindi : The tall claims of the local administration have dashed to the ground as consumers visiting Ramazan Sasta Bazaars even after 16th Ramazan could hardly find fresh vegetables, fruits, and other eatables. The prices of the eatables are also not much different from the ones sold in the open market.
The local administration has established ‘Sasta Bazaars’ near Iqbal Park Shamsabad, Committee Chowk, Haideri Chowk, Chungi No.22, Adiala Road, Chur Chowk, Chakri Road and Gulzar-e-Quaid.
It has been observed that only 15 to 20 per cent of consumers approach ‘Ramazan Sasta Bazaars’ while 30 per cent of people approach government-run utility stores. The majority of consumers seem interested in buying subsidized sugar and ghee from utility stores and low price vegetables, fruits, and sugar from ‘Ramazan Sasta Bazaars’. Rawalpindi : ‘Sugar’ has vanished from the open market because retailers have refused to sell the commodity in loss. Over 80 per cent consumers are wandering here and there in search of sugar but failed to get the commodity from open market in city and cantonment board localities here on Friday.
Notices have been pasted by majority of shopkeepers informing consumers that they had stopped selling sugar or sugar was not available at the shop.
The senior representatives of Rawalpindi General Stores Welfare Association including Nasir Shah, Muhammad Zubair, Akhtar Khan, Dil Nawaz, Rashid Mehmood Shaikh, Muhammad Saddiq, Sajid Mehmood and several others told ‘The News’ that they are purchasing 1-kilogram sugar at Rs106 from the wholesale market.
