NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday appointed a committee headed by former apex court Judge BN Srikrishna to manage the ancient Gokarna Mahabaleshwar Temple in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka till it decided the Ramachnadrapura Mutt s right to manage the Dakshin Kashi temple.
The management of one of the most famous Shiva temples in India had been mired in dispute since 2003 when the state government brought it under the purview of the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act, 1997.
Ramachnadrapura Mutt claimed that the temple is attached to the Mutt and represented to the government to delete it from the notification. ....
