The Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat has asked its all gram panchayats to constitute a village task force each to check the threat of COVID-19 from upsurging again.
The ZP Chief Executive Officer Kumar said that the task force will be headed by the Panchayat Development Officer. In addition, it will have the village accountant, an anganwadi worker, an Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA), and a gram panchayat member.
The task force will have to create awareness among people in the jurisdiction of their respective panchayats to take COVID-19 vaccine, wear masks in public places, and to take other precautionary measures. It will have to monitor whether people are wearing masks in public places. The task force will have to ensure that all precautionary measures are taken to contain the spread of infection. ....

The Dakshina Kannada district administration on Friday urged senior citizens, who constitute about 10% of the district’s population, and persons aged between 45 and 59 with comorbidities to get COVID-19 vaccination.
Speaking to reporters here, Deputy Commissioner K.V. Rajendra said that over 80% of the 741 people who have died of COVID-19 in the district were aged above 45 and had comorbidities. As such, it is always advisable for people in these two categories to undergo vaccination, he said, adding that no adverse effects have been reported in the State. ....

MANGALURU: Enforcing lockdown is economically suicidal as only the rich can manage in life, said Dr M K Sudarshan, Chairman, Karnataka Covid-19 Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).
He was delivering the first Dr B S Sajjan Endowment Oration on the theme ‘Public Health Leadership in Covid-19 Pandemic’ organised by the department of community medicine of Kasturba Medical College (KMC) on Saturday.
He said that there is no need for lockdown if people follow the Covid-19 guidelines properly.
“Though lockdown has helped in the clinical management of Covid-19 effectively, it is the last measure that the government should think about in case of the second wave of the pandemic.
