Eventually, Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church became not just a vaccine site but a way for the Douglas County Health Department to reach Omaha's Black community. "When COVID-19 came about, having a health ministry in place made it so much easier for us to focus on how do we first of all keep people safe, and then second of all, how do we give them good accurate up to date information," Rev. Ralph Lassiter said.
Dr. Katie Sagrero became concerned several weeks ago when upset patients began calling her South Omaha clinic with questions about a flyer in Spanish that suggested the two vaccines approved for COVID-19 contained tissue from aborted fetuses.
To provide some answers, Sagrero, a family physician with OneWorld Community Health Centers, revived the video series she had been doing for the Spanish news station Radio Lobo.
Neither the Pfizer nor Moderna vaccines contain aborted fetal cells, Sagrero explained in the Spanish-language video now available on YouTube.
In addition, the Catholic Church has said it is permissible for its members to get the vaccines.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)- After signing a proclamation for Black History Month, Governor Ricketts invited Dr. Ralph Lassiter to speak on his experience with vaccines in Nebraska.
Dr. Lassiter is the senior pastor at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, the first predominantly black Baptist church in Omaha, Nebraska.
Dr. Lassiter said that many people of color and many in the church oppose taking the vaccine, but they have their reasons.
Student-athletes from both the UNO baseball and golf teams are working with Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and the 4Urban.org organization led by Preston Love, Jr. to address the needs of children and families that are most acute during the holidays and beyond.
On Saturday, Jan. 9, the teams will join with community members to distribute toys and gifts to 30 children in need to help brighten the extended holiday season.
“Our student-athletes take very seriously their call to be a part of the greater Omaha community,” said Trev Alberts, Vice Chancellor for Athletics. “I am grateful that these Mavericks have taken the lead in improving the lives of deserving families through this partnership.
