A labour group yesterday called on the government to speed up Covid-19 vaccine distribution to all the country s workers, including migrants, as part of their demands to mark Labour Day on Saturday.
Chalee Loysoong, vice president of the Thai Labour Solidarity Committee (TLSC), said workers nationwide have been badly affected by the pandemic and the first thing the government should do is speed up vaccine distribution to them.
If the majority of workers are vaccinated, it can help reduce infections and will clear the way for schemes to revive the economy, he said. ....

Finance Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith yesterday gave his assurances that the government has enough money to continue funding Covid-relief programmes and kickstart the economy.
Mr Arkhom said the 400 billion baht left of the one trillion-baht-loan secured via the state of emergency was enough to care for people facing hardship.
He added that the government was also still considering a third extension of the popular Kon La Krueng (Half-Half) co-payment scheme.
Kon La Krueng subsidises people s spending on consumer purchases, and ruled out the need to issue another executive decree to borrow more money. ....

An estimated 50,000 people poured out of Bangkok on buses to their home provinces yesterday, about half the predicted figure for the traditional Songkran rush, due to fears over the latest wave of Covid-19 infections.
The figure on the first day of the peak travel period from April 9-18 was released by the state-owned Transport Company, which said it had laid on enough buses to carry 100,000 people. ....
