ISLAMABAD: Three men were sentenced to death for posting blasphemous content on social media by an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad on Friday.
The case has been pending in the Islamabad ATC for the last four years.
Blasphemy is a sensitive topic in Pakistan. Rights advocates have long been demanding a reform of the controversial blasphemy laws, which were introduced by military dictator General Ziaul Haq in the 1980s.
The trial in this case was completed last year. The court had reserved its verdict on December 15, 2020. ....

A Pakistan court here on Friday sentenced three men to death, while a fourth was awarded 10 years imprisonment for committing blasphemy.
Judge Raja Jawad Abbas of an Islamabad-based Anti-Terrorism Court announced the verdict and declared them guilty.
Of the three given capital punishment, Rana Nouman Rafaqat and Abdul Waheed disseminated blasphemous material on social media and Nasir Ahmad uploaded blasphemous videos to a Youtube channel, according to the charges upheld by the court.
A fourth individual, Professor Anwaar Ahmed, an Urdu teacher at a college in Islamabad, was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, along with a fine of 100,000 Pakistani rupees. He was found guilty of expressing blasphemous views during a lecture. ....

Another accused jailed for 10 years; four accused declared absconders
ISLAMABAD:
An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday sentenced three accused to death for their involvement in uploading blasphemous content onthe social media and jailed another accused for 10 years along with Rs100,000 fine for disrespecting the religion.
ATC Judge Raja Jawad Abbas Hassan announced the verdict which was reserved earlier. The court announced the sentence to the accused under sections 295-A, 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section G-7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
The three accused, Nasir Ahmed, Abdul Waheed and Rana Noman, were awarded death sentence while Prof Anwaar Ahmed was awarded the jail term and the fine. The accused were brought to the ATC from Adiala Jail for the verdict. ....
