tornado watch for about an hour and a half until 1:30 this morning. we are starting to see the winds pick up, and we have had rain squalls and certainly we have been preparing for this for the last two days in key west. we are, our residents have buttoned up, the hurricane shutters up, supplies and food and water for a week, medical supplies. right now city hall is closed for today and tomorrow and our emergency services are going to operate as long as we can weather permitting. so we are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. steve: key west, the island as far on the keys to the west, why they call it that. there is just one road back to the mainland. how many people evacuated? well, we had very few people evacuate and of course we all know being used to hurricanes that a hurricane can change in intensity and direction, but we
worst-case scenario with the florida west coast with storm surge. this isn t a huge hurricane, but even for a tropical storm, it s going to have significant impact. we just got the new information in from the national hurricane center. with very tropical storm warnings that go all the way from the west coast to the florida keyes, naples, sarasota, tampa bay area, all the way toward cedar key, and the newest information, they have 60-mile-an-hour winds. that s the maximum sustained. you notice that miami has had a couple of showers, not much going on. this is a small storm. it s not a huge storm. so the rain shield will not affect all of the florida peninsula. there will be rain squalls, but as far as the rain squalls will go, that s over key west. that will move toward the everglades and ft. myers and this afternoon and evening toward tampa. here s the new hurricane path.
see all the heavy stuff is off the coast. look at florida. barely any rainfall at all. even areas of georgia, barely any rain, but once the storm gets close enough to south carolina and eastern north carolina, that s where we could get the 5 to 7, isolated up to 10 inches of rain. that would cause some flooding problems in localized areas. tonight and into tomorrow, the wind forecast and the coast and the beaches, 50 to 60-mile-per-hour winds. it s going to get people attention. especially when the rain squalls go through. do not expect to be watching a lot of wind damage, guys as we go throughout the next couple of days. it won t be maybe until we get to north carolina that we get the wind damage. i got a couple of questions for you. sure. first, with regards to bahamas, how out of the ordinary is it extraordinary. the survivors when we hear from them, they ll tell a tale that
