February 17, 2021 New Jersey releases grants for rail/bridge maintenance and new construction Written by Bill Wilson, Editor-in-Chief The Southern Maryland Rapid Transit Project would connect the Branch Avenue Metro station to Waldorf and White Plains. Ten railroad projects in New Jersey will receive financial assistance from the state’s Department of Transportation. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is providing $29 million in grants to projects in 11 counties that include track maintenance, bridge maintenance and new bridge construction. The funding comes from the NJDOT’s FY 2021 Rail Freight Assistance Program and covers more than half of each of the project’s cost. Railroad owners and operators will add $23 million to the pot. ....
Jan 21, 2021 HARRISBURG – Oil Creek Titusville Lines Inc. received a $140,000 grant for rail freight improvements, said Reps. Lee James, R-Venango/Butler, and Kathy Rapp, R-Warren/Crawford/Forest. The grant will improve operations by extending a passing siding by 1,000 feet. “I was excited to see that Oil Creek Titusville Lines received this funding – good for them,” James said. “It’s positive that the funding will be used to improve operations at a time when supply chains have been disrupted not just in northwestern Pennsylvania but all over the country.” The State Transportation Commission voted to approve 26 rail freight projects across the Commonwealth through the Rail Transportation Assistance Program and the Rail Freight Assistance Program. ....

The state earmarked about $1.8 million to improve U.S. Steel Corp.’s Union Railroad infrastructure in the Braddock area and for a rail yard project along the Monongahela River in Westmoreland County. PennDOT granted U.S. Steel Corp. $1.7 million for two projects on its Union Railroad, which serves three of the steelmaker’s plants the Clairton coke plant, Edgar Thomson in Braddock and the Irvin finishing plant in West Mifflin as well as other manufacturing plants in the Mon Valley. ....
