People in Ireland appear to be increasingly confident that holidays at home and abroad are on the horizon, with the numbers booking hotels and flights rising last month.
The travel industry welcomed the extra activity but pointed out that it was coming off a very low base. Industry representatives said it would be some time before the level of spending across the hospitality sector came anywhere close to that seen before the Covid-19 pandemic. ....

AIB: Under 25s record biggest increase in hotel spend

The highest increase in hotel spending came from those under the age of 25, where spend was up 38%
Spend on hotel stays was up 30% in April compared to March, according to new debit and credit card data from AIB.
The boost in spend follows clarity from the Government on the reopening of the sector, which is set for June.
Those under the age of 25 recorded the highest increase in hotel spending, with a rise of 38%.
The data shows the lowest increase was among those between the ages of 45-54.
In terms of airline spending for the month of April, those over the age of 65 recorded the biggest increase, up 25% on the previous month. ....
