Friday May 7, 2021 Although vaccination rates are up, Grand County is experiencing the highest rate of COVID-19 transmission in the state, likely accelerated by the B117 variant. Meanwhile, state law has ended Grand’s local mask mandate, leaving businesses and organizations to make their own public health decisions. We check in with health officer Bradon Bradford on these changes. His recommendation? Friday April 30, 2021 The Bureau of Land Management completed some minimal emergency treatment on the Birthing Rock petroglyph panel on Wednesday. The site is at least 1,000 years old and was found marred by obscenities earlier this week. So what do conservators consider before attempting to mitigate damage at a cultural site like Birthing Rock? Today on the news, we speak with former BLM Moab archeologist Don Montoya. He currently works as a consultant with land management agencies and has plenty of experience in damage assessment. Montoya says this is not the first time the Birthing Rock panel has suffered vandalism.
