Many from the High Desert have driven through Lucerne Valley. Perhaps on the way to Big Bear, Joshua Tree National Park or Landers to experience Giant Rock. Or, perhaps again, just to stop in town for breakfast or lunch, on the way to some heavy-duty four-wheeling in Johnson Valley.
Or, maybe, to film a movie like “Valkyrie” (2008), “Green Lantern” (2011) or “Alpha” (2018). There are many, many more films, TV series and commercials shot in Lucerne Valley, but I got lazy and decided the three most-popular films would do to make my point. ....

Billed as a golfer’s dream, developers unveiled the Rancho Lucerne master plan in 1999.
Once complete, the project in rural Lucerne Valley would include 4,257 homes, tree-lined streets, an elaborate trail system and a 27-hole, state-of-the-art golf course.
“Within a single afternoon, golf enthusiasts will feel like they’re playing in the U.S. Open, Masters tournament, or other renowned domestic courses,” a print advertisement suggested to attract homebuyers and investors.
But aside from street grading, residential house pads and a few varieties of trees that eventually died, Rancho Lucerne located across from Lucerne Valley Middle High School on Rabbit Springs Road never came to fruition. ....
