[Photo: Stanley Ongwae, Standard.] Nyamira County Assembly was yesterday turned into a boxing ring when ward representatives exchanged blows after failing to agree on the House business. Shouts and whistle sounds rent the air as chaos unfolded on the floor of the assembly. The Members of County Assembly (MCAs) had differed on the order of business to be debated, with some feeling that there was no transparency on certain issues. Bomwagamo Ward Rep Charles Barongo protested that the day’s Order Paper was not circulated in time, yet it contained contentious issues which had caused divisions among them last week. ....
Watch: Nyamira MCAs Exchange Blows and Kicks inside County Assembly There was drama at the Nyamira County Assembly on Tuesday morning after MCAs turned the floor of the House into a boxing ring over the dewhipping of some MCAs from crucial committees The MCAs exchanged blows and kicks after disagreeing over the introduction of a new name in the Committee of Appointments report. An earlier report from Nyamira governor Amos Nyaribo had featured four names with a promise that the fifth nominee would be confirmed later. The committee later settled on all five names, with the fifth nominee scheduled for later vetting. ....
THE STANDARD By Stanley Ongwae | January 19th 2021 at 18:30:55 GMT +0300 Nyamira County Assembly has rejected the nomination of Dr James Gesami ( pictured) as deputy governor.
This means Governor Amos Nyaribo will have to go back to the drawing board to pick another nominee.
The vote was conducted through secret ballot where those in support of the report carried the day with 21 votes while those against were 15.
The results are a culmination of two weeks of lobbying against and for the nominee of the deputy governor nominee. Earlier on, tempers flared after the Appointments Committee rejected Gesami.
The morning and afternoon sessions saw MCAs opposed to Gesami s nomination sticking to their guns against attempts to amend the report. ....
