Despite having the highest positivity rate in Maharashtra, Palghar’s Adivasi communities are sceptical about testing and vaccinations. Given existing challenges like poverty and malnourishment, the virus is not worth additional attention.
Palghar, a predominantly Adivasi district spread over eight blocks, was carved out of Thane district in Maharashtra in 2014. The Western Express Highway which starts in Mumbai and connects Maharashtra to Gujarat passes through this district dividing it almost uniformly into a prosperous western region and an under-developed eastern region. Palghar, a predominantly Adivasi district spread over eight blocks, was carved out of Thane district in Maharashtra in 2014. The Western Express Highway which starts in Mumbai and connects Maharashtra to Gujarat passes through this district – dividing it almost uniformly into a prosperous western region and an under-developed eastern region. In the east, blocks such as Wada and Vikramgad have industrial estates that provide employment opportunities to the locals. Ms. Madhu Jain, Director, IIFL Foundation said, “We have been closely watching the developments around the pandemic and are committed to supporting our communities in these testing times. An important step in this direction is addressing the shortage of oxygen in our communities. This will facilitate proper and timely treatment of patients, and reduction in number of deaths. It is our strong belief that by staying together and supporting each other, we can abate this crisis soon.”
 
Going forward, IIFL Foundation will continue to undertake relief measures and support the underprivileged sections of the society in their fight against the pandemic. ....
