Literacy Bus to students at Ingram-Pye Elementary

MACON, Georgia(41NBC/WMGT) To celebrate National Literacy Month, the Ingram-Pye Elementary staff will take a literacy bus to four different neighborhoods in the area.
Beginning at noon, they deliver books and treats to students, encouraging them to read.
Ingram-Pye Elementary media specialist Ranekqua Mitchell says this will their support for the students even through the pandemic.
“We just want to connect with our community in ways that you guys don’t have to come to us,” Mitchell said. “We’re here for you, and so this is how we build our Ingram-Pye family. This is how we show our support and show them that we are a family.” ....

Ingram-Pye hosts sweet treat Drive-thru for students


Ingram-Pye Elementary celebrates student achievement with a Sweet Treat Drive-Thru.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) As students embark on the second semester of virtual learning, the Ingram-Pye Elementary faculty and staff refreshed their students with awards and sweet treats.
Principal Dr. Danielle M. Howard says it’s been hard not seeing the students in-person.
The Sweet Treat drive-thru event served as a celebration for the students.
Dr. Howard said, “They are being awarded certificates of perfect attendance and a coupon to Wendy’s.”
School officials acknowledged students for positive behavior and engaging through virtual learning.
Some parents expressed concern about having students return to the classroom. However, they showed gratitude for the teachers. ....

NORTH CHARLESTON — After the closure of the Charleston Naval Base in 1996, North Charleston turned its attention beyond that eastern stretch along Rivers Avenue and sought opportunities for expansion.
The city eyed the corridor along Dorchester Road, envisioning the largely untapped terrain as a place where people could live and work in the same area.
Those plans have exceeded expectations.
The Dorchester County section of North Charleston is one of the city s fastest-growing areas, adding thousands of residents, hundreds of homes and apartments and many major businesses in the past decade.
