February 22, 2021 After a United Airlines jet rained engine debris over a Denver suburb, some regulators are banning planes with the engine from their airspace. Huge portions of the right engine, pieces of fiberglass and flakes of insulation rained down, just missing a home. United Airlines Flight 328 on its was to Hawaii when its engine experienced a failure. The plane was able to land safely and no injuries were reported. The engine on the Boeing 777-200 jet was a PW4000-112, made by Connecticut-based Pratt & Whitney. The company is now at the center of a National Transportation Safety Board investigation. Federal aviation regulators ordered United Airlines to step up inspections of all Boeing 777s equipped with that type of engine. United said it is temporarily removing those 24 aircraft from service. ....
Boeing Recommends Airlines Ground 777s Powered by PW4000-112 Engines (22 Feb 2021) Boeing has recommended airlines suspend operations of the 69 in-service and 59 in-storage 777 aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney 4000-112 engines. The advice comes after United Airlines flight UA328 (reg: N772UA) had to make an emergency landing at Denver Int. Airport on Saturday after one of its two engines experienced an uncontained failure. United Airlines is the only US airline to operate the Boeing 777 with Pratt & Whitney 4000-112 engines. Korean Air, Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways have said that they have grounded their Boeing 777s which use the same engines. ....
