It summit of the autocrats. it was bad. so by the new york times trolling the word treason on the front page. there was a story about how this was the last straw for the republicans who had backed trump. that was the other lead story on the front page of the times that day about how trump s base had been rattled by his behavior with putin. it was a real open question whether a mistake this bad could have electoral implications for the president when he was up for reelection in 2020. and trump was apparently worried about losing the presidency, and weeks after that meeting. not because of the putin debacle, this was the headline at axios right after the putin summit, trump fears biden 2020, losing pennsylvania. now again, this was july of 2018. joe biden would not enter the race for another nine months. donald trump was spooked just by the idea, the idea of a head to head matchup with joe biden ....

Biden/putin summit that this topic came up, they walked away and thought it would do something because immediately we saw more ransomware attacks. immediately we saw russian intelligence agencies hacking in, attempting to get into the republican national committee. so toss not a deterrent. he has no reason really to stop what he is doing because he is suffering no cost. establishing deterrence in cyber space means you have to give some sort of a cost to your adversary so they ll quit doing it. i really don t see vladimir putin backing down at all or stopping at any point until he knows what the line is that the u.s. will defend, and right now i don t think anyone knows what that line really will come down to. daniel, do you know what the line is at this point coming out of the biden administration, how far they re willing to go? well, they don t want to have the same exact red line that they did, or a similar one they did with syria, because obama ....
Either doesn t believe in the power of his words i doubt that very highly considering his political success. so, is actually trying to use words like this, i think it shows you his mentality, what he traffics in, the kind of information that s coming in to him. and i can t disconnect that trump frame of mind and mentality from what we see from the likes of marjorie taylor greene today, talking about the vaccine and saying we re not going to have your sort of science brown shirts making a nazi reference in her displeasure with the biden administration s effort to get all of america vaccinated. there s a direct line between that trump mentality and somebody who is a trump follower like marjorie taylor greene making those kind of comments. there s also a direct line between public comments by trump in which he praises someone like vladimir putin, who we know ....
And would we know about it if it happened necessarily? we may not know about it because putin and russia may not want to admit that we found a weak spot and took advantage of it. it could range from everything such as taking the infrastructure for this particular ran some ware syndicate off-line, potentially going after their cryptocurrency stores. it could also be sending a warning in very subtle and not-so-subtle ways that we may not actually know about. beyond specific cyber options, there are other sanctions, et cetera, that this administration, previous administrations have used considered and through multiple administrations of both parties hadn t worked. china and russia have kept up these kind of attacks on a grand scale. should economic sanctions of a greater degree be under consideration, something that would really hurt russia s ....
