Apr 24, 2021 Two Maui residents, Chef Lee Anderson and Grammy Award-winning musician Kalani Pe’a, are among the six volunteer leaders statewide who are serving as Purple Ambassadors as part of the Alzheimer’s Association’s The Longest Day, a worldwide fundraising event on June 20. The event is held annually on the summer solstice, the longest day of the year and the day with the most light. It also coincides with Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month in June. Longest Day participants can fight against the darkness of Alzheimer’s through a fundraising activity of their choice. “Given the COVID-19 pandemic, Longest Day participants can support the event virtually through ‘at-home’ and ‘social-distance’ activities biking, hiking, playing games, hula and more to shine a light on the nearly 100,000 residents and caregivers in Hawaii impacted by Alzheimer’s or other dementias,” said Ku’u Demonte, chair of The Longest Day Committee.
