Reflecting on two revered chestnut trees in Ganderbal, the author recounts childhood memories intertwined with the orchard's evolution. Originally planted by Haji Ghulam Rasool, the trees stood as sentinels for seven decades, witnessing transformations from a playground to an orchard. The author nostalgically recalls moments of harvesting chestnuts with friends and the joyous symphony created by igniting them on traditional Daanbur. Sadly, recent pruning by new custodians has diminished the once-abundant chestnuts, symbolising changing times. Despite looming apprehensions, there's hope that future generations will savor the essence of these chestnuts, preserving a timeless connection to the past.
