BROOKVILLE COUPLE VICTIMIZED BY SCAMMER By John Smathers

A Brookville couple was scammed out of nearly $10,000 when an agency claiming to be Publishing Clearing House called and told them they had won a sweepstake for $5 million dollars and $7,000 a week for life. According to Punxsutawney PSP, the incident occurred on Dec. 14.
Police say the victims said the spokesperson indicated they would need to send an amount of money to receive their winnings. The victims sent a cash and cashers check to various requested locations. The victims were asked to send more money and did not do so.
The investigation is ongoing.
