WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — It’s your chance to improve police transparency in Polk County.
In an ongoing effort to be more transparent and build the relationship between the community and police, the City of Winter Haven is looking for community members to serve on a new Public Safety Community Advisory Committee.
The committee will consist of nine people and two alternates, with the power to ask the police department questions about decisions that were made and make suggestions. ....

Christopher Manning will serve as USC’s first chief inclusion and diversity officer, President Carol Folt announced in a Universitywide email Monday. The all-new position was created following the events of last summer, including the national Black Lives Matter movement and the creation of the @black at usc Instagram page, and the role was defined through “extensive community feedback,” according to Folt’s email. Manning will assume the role March 1. 
Manning’s 90-day plan once he assumes the role involves facilitating conversations with students, faculty, staff and administrative leaders about their understanding of diversity at USC, and areas in which there is room for growth. In addition, he plans to conduct an audit of all the diversity, equity and inclusion work done to understand ....

USC announces first chief inclusion and diversity officer

Christopher Manning, an experienced leader and advocate for diversity in higher education, has been named USC’s first chief inclusion and diversity officer, President Carol L. Folt announced Monday. He will report directly to the president and begin his new role on March 1.
Manning joins USC after serving as both an assistant and an associate provost for academic diversity for nearly five years at Loyola University Chicago. During his tenure at Loyola, he also spent many years teaching and conducting research on the histories of marginalized populations. ....

Princeton senior Kiara “KiKi” Gilbert has been named a 2021 Marshall Scholar. The Marshall Scholarship seeks to promote strong relations between the United Kingdom and the United States by offering intellectually distinguished young Americans the opportunity to develop their abilities as future leaders. The scholarship covers the cost of two years of graduate study in the UK at a university of the recipient’s choice.
Gilbert, a resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, is one of 46 awardees for 2021. An African American studies concentrator who is completing a certificate in humanistic studies, Gilbert will pursue an MPhil in criticism and culture at the University of Cambridge and an MPhil in political thought and intellectual theory at SOAS University of London. ....
