Mumbai Sessions Court has sentenced acclaimed artist Chintan Upadhyay to life imprisonment for conspiring and abetting the murder of his ex-wife Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Haresh Bhambhani.Sessions.
Stating in its detailed order that the accused is a “pest of society” and that his “act is not worthy of showing any sort of mercy”, a special court under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act sentenced 35-year-old Vadivel to death for sexually assaulting and then murdering a nine-year-old in April 2019.

It has been 11 years since advocate Shahid Azmi was killed in his office for representing clients he believed to be falsely implicated in terror crimes. However, only three witnesses out of 107 have been examined and cross-examined in his own murder trial.
On February 11, 2010, Azmi was home at around 8 p.m. when his office boy told him that some clients were waiting for him at his office. Upon reaching his office, he saw two men waiting inside his cabin and two others waiting in the outside area. Azmi called the other two in and they shot him. The office boy immediately ran and called his mother to the office. She, along with others, took Azmi to a hospital where he was declared “brought dead”.

A witness on Friday identified a tempo which was used, as per the prosecutionâs case, for disposing the bodies of artist Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Harish Bhambani after their murders in 2015.
The witness is connected with the recovery of the vehicle and another car - a Honda City â belonging to Bhambani, that was allegedly driven off by the accused from the spot of the crime and then abandoned. The witness was required to identify the tempo as the same vehicle that was recovered in his presence earlier.
