Maharashtra government said on Tuesday that three companies have responded to its global tender for anti-covid vaccines but the quotes do not indicate a supply schedule.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), on the other hand, has received response from eight suppliers. However, following a request by some suppliers seeking more time to complete the paperwork, the BMC has extended the deadline for Expression of Interest (EoI) to June 1.
“We have received rates from Pfizer, Sputnik and Astra-Zeneca to our global tender. However they have not come up with a supply schedule,” said Maharashtra’s Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope.

The Maharashtra Government is likely to extend the lockdown with stringent curbs beyond May 15 for a few days as the daily COVID 19 cases are still 50,000 plus, announced Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope. Amid the second wave, the Maharashtra government had imposed a lockdown from April 22 to May 1. It was extended to May 15 to break the virus chain. Tope asserted that the Coronavirus crisis is still not over as there has been projection of a third wave.
The existing strict restrictions under the BreaktheChain order are expected to continue till May 31 across Maharashtra. Already districts, which are witnessing rise on COVID 18 infection and deaths, have announced total lockdown to break the virus chain. The state cabinet will take a decision.
Hiccups as Maharashtra govt looks to procure Covishield from Serum Institute, vaccinate all adults

Mumbai: The Maharashtra governmentâs ambitious plan to launch the vaccination drive for the 18-45 age group, covering 8.5 crore people in the state from May 1, has hit a major roadblock according to Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope. He said the state could not procure Covishield from the Serum Indian Institute as until May 24, 2021, the SII is bound to deliver the manufactured vaccine doses to the Central government as per its contract.
He said, âI spoke to SII CEO Adar Poonawalla. He said that the Centre has procured the vaccines to be manufactured over the next month. Thus, we cannot buy any for another month. The state will not be able to procure the vaccine from the SII for at least a month.â
