Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities Director Brad Bentley discussed his department’s construction plans during the legislature’s Public Facilities Committee meeting. Bentley noted that they’re getting more money this year than usual from the state so they’re planning on doing more with the county’s roads and bridges. “We’re going to be paving about 32 miles of road. Usually we do about 15 to 20 miles,” he said. They’re also planning on doing 96 miles of surface treatment with oil and stone, up from the usual 60-80 miles.

Options to improve salting roads heard | News, Sports, Jobs

Recently he attended some presentations put on by Lake George area municipalities about ways to better salt roads. He shared some of what was discussed at the legislature’s Public Facilities Committee meeting this week.

Upgrades Proposed For County Overland Trails | News, Sports, Jobs

Funds are being sought to improve Chautauqua County’s trail system. Jacob Bodway, who is the president of the Western New York Mountain Biking Association, is working with the county Parks Commission to implement a six year improvement project for the Overland Trails. Phases 1-3 would be for the West Overland Trails, while Phases 4-6 would focus on the East Overland Trails. Ideally, Bodway would like $75,000 to $100,000 per phase and implement one phase a year through 2026. He has submitted a grant application to the Ralph Wilson Jr. Foundation through the Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo. He is also working with foundations in the county for matching funds.
