Biden Picks Christine Wormuth as First Woman to Lead U.S. Army


The first woman to lead the United States Army could be a former senior Pentagon official as President Joe Biden plans to nominate Christine Wormuth in the position, the White House stated Monday.
Based on the latest update, if the Senate will confirm Wormuth as the Army Secretary, she would be one of the most powerful officials in a defense building long dominated by men. 
Christine Wormuth would work with the Army s chief of staff, General James McConville, who is responsible together with the Army secretary, for training and equipping of the soldiers.
Biden has not yet nominated anyone that will serve as the secretary for the Air Force and Navy. Several positions inside the Pentagon with a requirement of Senate confirmation also have yet to be filled.  ....

Tennessee High School Student Killed In Shootout With Police


After a shooting incident at Austin-East Magnet High School in East Tennessee on Monday afternoon, the Knoxville Police Department confirmed that a student was killed and a police officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Based on reports, police officers ordered the student inside a restroom wherein he is hiding to come out. However, he refused to comply with the police order.
According to WSB-TV 2, David B. Rausch, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation director, said in a news conference that police officers responded to the school around 3:15 p.m. after receiving a report that someone was possibly armed with a gun.
Upon arrival, Rausch said the cops located an armed student inside a restroom. But when the officers entered the restroom, the student immediately fired on them, hitting one of the officers.  ....

Police made over 30 arrests in Thessaloniki on Monday after they clashed with protesters who were demonstrating against a new education bill that calls for the presence of police on university campuses.
The protesters had occupied a building on the campus of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for several hours on Monday, voicing their dissent against the controversial bill, which recently passed in Parliament.
Clashes between Greek riot police and protesters ensued after the police entered the building and began to remove the activists.
The Dean of Aristotle University, Nikos Papaioannou, notified the police of the presence of activists on campus after he received notice that they had occupied one of the university’s main buildings early Monday morning. ....
